PUPIL'S PROJECT

Letters have gone out to all schools in Dumfries, - asking pupils to form an army to help make Dumfries the cleanest town in the UK.
Colin Grant, - the director of education has given his backing to the campaign, -but we are under no illusion that this will be an overnight success.

If you are a pupil, - you can make a massive difference to your town and region, - simply pick up a piece of litter and then find the nearest bin, - or better still, - fill a bag and then drop it in the bin at home, or at school

 The Beautiful Scotland judges have been to Dumfries, - and I think the council, - Civic Pride and individual shop-keepers and house-holders did a fantastic job of getting the town look in tip-top shape.

A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL FOR TAKING PART IN A REAL PEOPLE'S PROJECT

 The judges were impressed, - coming from Aberdeen and North Berwick, - and they have taken their findings back to their national committee.

  Summerhill Community Centre were also featured as part of the "It's Your Neighbourhood" competition.

 "THE CLEAN BRITAIN AWARDS"
 
 Dumfries has been put forward for THE CLEAN BRITAIN awards by The People's Project, - and You can still get involved, - all you need to do is decide to tidy up an area that's lying in a sorry state, - and you will feel so much better, - knowing that YOU made all the difference!

 The "Clean Britain" judges come unannounced, - any time between now and the second week in September!

 So please remember:
 
"IT ONLY TAKES A SECOND TO PICK UP A PIECE OF LITTER!"

 The People's Project has made an application to the Planning department to site statues of Peter Pan and Captain Hook on a prominent roundabout in Dumfries, to promote our association with J.M. Barrie.
 We have also asked that signs at either end of the by-pass should announce: "WELCOME TO DUMFRIES, - THE BIRTH-PLACE OF PETER PAN"
 

 See the difference immediately what sparing a second has done, - do it every day and pass the word round, - and in no time we wouldn't have a litter problem. By changing the way we look at a problem, - we can change a culture, - but let's make Dumfries the UK leader!   

You could maybe even paint that fence, - or window or wall, - or remove the grass from your gutters. - All these things will impress the judges, - just send in your before and after photos to The People's Project, - and we will pass them on to the awards people as well as the "Dumfries Standard."
