The main aims of The People's Project are:
- To encourage everyone in the region
to make Dumfries and Galloway "The Best Place to live in the UK."
- To crown
Dumfries and The Region "The Queen of the South"
- In a rural economy, - tourism is vital,
- and we must strive to create an eco-friendly environment by making the town and the region the cleanest
in the UK. By doing so, we may entice a small percentage of the tourists over the border from the Lake District,
- which would make a huge difference to our economy.
- By working together to improve the region in
which we live, - will mean that at the end of the recession, Dumfries and Galloway will be best placed to entice potential
investors.
I would like people to identify projects which could be tackled on a "Challenge Aneka"
type basis, - providing local communities an opportunity to feel they belong. An example might be: To convert a piece
of wasteland in your street into a garden or choose an old hall, - and renovate it by using volunteer plumbers ;
joiners; painters ; electricians etc, - to transform the building into community use. The possibilities are endless,
- and the only limit is YOUR imagination.
"Essentially, - I'd like
the public to embrace the PP; for them to realise that this is their opportunity to make a difference to their communities. We're
all happy to raise money for good causes all over the world, - and that should obviously continue, - but sometimes charity
should begin at home, - for the benefit of everyone."
IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT
YOUR TOWN (AND REGION) CAN DO FOR YOU, - BUT MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR TOWN AND (REGION).
"I PASSIONATELY BELIEVE THAT A STRONG REGIONAL CAPITAL, - BRINGS CAPITAL TO THE ENTIRE REGION."
Mark Jardine, The People's Project
